This week's featured mix comes from Helsinki-born Sunny Seppä, who is better known by his stage name Sansibar.
Rooting himself in Detroit-style techno and electro during his early career, Sunny began to soften the edges of his tracks and incorporate elements of jungle, house, and breakbeat. The core of his work still features the technical drum programming and driving beats of techno, but it offers a warmer and more inviting touch to the historically harsh and industrial genre. To experience his unique blend, listen to his standout EP of 2021, Sans Musique on the hallowed Kalahari Oyster Cult label. Throughout the album, you'll discover elements of various styles and emotions. It's an album I've returned to with fresh ears and new tastes over the past few years, and each time I continue to rediscover and add tracks to my own collection, as they can seamlessly fit into a wide variety of contexts. They exude a gritty and dynamic energy while also evoking a warm and euphoric feeling, making them perfect for breaking down or igniting the dance floor.
Not only the talented producer, he's also adored for his captivating live and DJ sets with residencies at clubs in Finland and Berlin. This Boiler Room is one of those sets and is from the recent DGTL Amsterdam event, featuring Black Cadmium, Marie Montexier, and Bonobo. Sansibar took the sunset slot on Saturday of the festival, guiding the dance floor from energetic movement to entrancing and hypnotic house and techno. Behind the decks, he resembles a mad professor, while the crowd bounces and grooves at his fingertips. Sansibar's DGTL set is a rollercoaster ride through pulsating techno, mind-bending synthscapes, and his signature blends.
Ideal for: Hypnosis.
Track of the Mix: Unreleased x Sansibar @ 30:00 - The standout track to me is this groovy number. According to the comments, it is unreleased Sansibar. For our sake I hope he drops it soon.
