Bam. It’s September! I warned you that August was going to hit hard and fast.
I hope you all have had a magical Labor Day weekend! I sure did :) To celebrate, I bring you our Labor Day Monday Mix. It’s just what you need to keep the summer party going and dance out some of that stress you got from realizing summer is officially over.
This MML post spotlights Aloka, a DJ and producer hailing from Wales. Aloka, born Jake O’Ragan, has been on my radar for a little while now. His music boasts a unique combo of electro, UK techno, and jungle, which aligns impeccably with my current genre fixation. His tracks are predominantly tailored for the clerb, delivering impactful percussion and sizzling bass, yet they also incorporate emotive melodic elements, creating a well-balanced and craveable track that is perfect for the dance floor.

In addition to his productions, Aloka has taken the initiative to carve his own path in the industry by establishing Typeless Records, a label that's quickly gaining traction for it’s cultivation of club weapons. Through Typeless Records, he's provided a platform for talented artists like False Persona and Viers, both of whom have recently caught my attention. Releases likeMinimal Stares by False Persona and Summoning Salts by Viers have been personal favorites of mine, and it's only now that I'm realizing they were released under the Typeless Records banner. Aloka’s knack for spotting exceptional talent shines through, not only in his own productions but also in his ability to curate a roster of gifted artists, making his label a hub for finding new songs for my USB.
Aloka's mix for Spandau20 is a powerhouse. The mix emanates a heavy, dark, and gritty energy, that's tailor-made for the dancefloor. Spandau20, the renowned record label hailing from Berlin and founded by FJAAK & friends, is known for its commitment to both local talents from the western district of Spandau and international artists. Aloka's contribution to this mix series is a testament to his prowess as a DJ and producer. It's a meticulously crafted blend of his own productions and carefully curated crate finds. Throughout the mix, the beats are relentless, keeping your head bopping, each track building anticipation for the next. Like I said, its just what you need to release those summertime ending scaries.
