oooOoOoooOooooOOoooooo *spooky-scary noises (with bass)
Hello spooktacular readers and listeners. Welcome to the Halloween episode of our Monday Mix series. Sheeesh… how is October already over. The sun has come and gone and the season of never ending dark and rainy clouds is upon us. Which means it’s time to put away those catchy feel good summer songs and break out the dark and creepy tunes that have been hiding in the deep recesses of your usb. Ooo I love a good late night weapon to get the dance shoes wigglin’. (Here’s one from Hassan Abou Alam).
So lately my workflow for finding new mixes has been to go though my recently liked songs and find a song I really liked. Then if it’s an artist I’m not too familiar with, I’ll find a recent mix they have posted and give it a listen. This is what happened with Hassan Abou Alam. Several of his songs had made their way to my playlists. So I decided it was time to give his SoundCloud reposts a gander. I was immediately drawn to his Boiler Room live set he had done in 2019. Live set + Boiler Room, say less, I gave it a listen.
Please ignore, what is quite possibly, the most cringe Boiler Room introduction of all time. This intro sent chills down my spine and does not represent what is to come. Give those first 10 seconds a skip. Okay so back to Hassan’s live performance. It chugs at a low tempo, laying down a spooky vibe for the duration of the set. A genre that I haven’t listened to very often but felt perfect for our Halloween episode. Hassan is able to pull elements in and out flawlessly, making it feel like one continuous production rather than a collection of songs. This is something that allows Hassan to maintain his unique style for the entirety of the mix. I hope this mix helps you have a spooky scary Halloween :)
